BSI Inspectorate Establish Presence in Yemen

BSI Inspectorate, a leading independent inspection and analysis company, has established a permanent office in Yemen with the core focus on oil and petroleum inspection. The role of BSI Inspectorate in Yemen is expected to enhance the country's reputation as an oil supplier among the strong competition in the regional market.

Yemen produces around 500,000 barrels per day of crude oil, which amounted to 2,207,093 tons of oil products in the first half of 2003. Crude oil is the main export product of the country, amounting to 90 per cent of the $3bn export revenue in 2002.

The Inspectorate's operations will be based in Aden, and will be targeting crude oil exports from Ras Isa and Ash Shihr and petroleum products from the Aden refinery. The inspection team will also be able to carry out draft surveys for bulk and bagged agro-commodities.

The move further consolidates the work of BSI Inspectorate in the Middle East, adding to its laboratory in Dubai, which opened in 2003.
